Story
The pot with a strainer is key here, it allows you to easily transition the cooked food from the hot water and simply pour it out to serve. You'll probably want to put something on the counter or table to absorb some of the water and heat.
Ingredients
- 4 quarts Water
- 1 can Beer (Optional)
- ½ cup Old Bay®
- 2 tbsp Salt
- 8 medium Red Potatoes
- 2 Large Onions
- 2 lbs Smoked Sausage
- 8 Ears of Corn, Shucked
- 4 lbs Shrimp, Shells On
- Melted Butter (for dipping)
Tools
- A Large Stock pot with strainer insert and a spoon or ladle big enough to stir
Instructions
- Combine Water, Beer, Old Bay® and Salt in a large pot and bring to boil. Depending on the size of the pot you may need to add additional water, you want enough water to cover all the ingredients once added. Keep in mind for a large pot this may take 30 minutes or more.
- Cut the Onions into wedges (either quarters or eights) and the Potatoes into quarters. Slice the Sausage into 1 to 2 inch pieces and cut the Ears of Corn in half.
- Once the water is boiling add the Onions and Potatoes and Cook for 8 minutes.
- Add the Sausage and cook for 5 minutes.
- Add the Corn and cook for 7 minutes.
- Add the Shrimp and cook for 4 minutes (until the shrimp is pink).
- Lift strainer out of hot water, allow to drain, dump out the food and enjoy!
